Working with Rewarded Interest

This page outlines the various integration points between Rewarded Interest and our DSP or Media Buyer partners. We share here how Rewarded Interest provides an advertising identity for your use.

Rewarded Interest's IDs

Rewarded Interest provides the consumer's advertising ID in a protected and decrypted form.

  • The protected version of the Rewarded Interest advertising ID is called the "pCMAID" or Protected Consumer Mediated Advertising ID

  • The decrypted version of the Rewarded Interest advertising ID is called the CMAID or Consumer Mediated Advertising ID. This is the durrable, pseudonomous cross-device identified associated with a consumer.

Obtaining the Rewarded Interest ID

Rewarded Interest makes the pCMAID available through multiple APIs and touch-points.

On-page API

The pCMAID is available via an on-page API injected by Rewarded Interest. This javascript API is located at window.__riApi.

  • window.__riApi

    • Provides access to the Rewarded Interest ID

    • Provides our API version

    • Lets CMPs provide their CMP ID, version details, and confirm receipt of a user’s consent policy via TCData

Prebid Identity Module

The pCMAID is available via the Prebid user identity module. Please make sure any SSP or publisher through which you get inventory has enabled the Rewarded Interest component.

Tag macro injection

Rewarded Interest can inject the pCMAID into a tag on the page, replacing a designated macro.

Decrypting the Rewarded Interest ID

Rewarded Interest makes the consumer's pCMAID available through multiple APIs and touch-points. In its encrypted form, it is not possible to reconcile the identifier back to the same user across sites or across time.

Rewarded Interest provides partners with a containerized service that can be run within partner infrastructure, close to bidding or segment creation. Partners can run many copies and use them to obtain CMAIDs with low latency.

Usage of the Rewarded Interest ID

Rewarded Interest charges partners 10% of media spend to serve targeted advertisements or offers to consumers using their CMAID. Partners can use the CMAID to create targeting profiles or to append data to the identity without charge.

Free Use Cases

Partner usage of the Rewarded Interest ID is governed by our Partner Policies.

Reading the consumer’s consent policy

There are two different APIs that Rewarded Interest writes in the DOM of the webpage (on window object):

  • window.__tcfapi

    • This is Rewarded Interest’s implementation of the IAB TCF API.  We recommend Consent Management Platforms and DSPs read a complete record of consent from the TCData object available through this API. TCData articulates the consumer’s consent policy.

Sharing consumer consent information with CMPs

It is Rewarded Interest’s goal to ensure CMPs get “credit” for any consented users that are using Rewarded Interest.  We also want CMPs to fulfill their obligations and capture and record the consent preferences of Rewarded Interest users so that they can maintain a durable record of consent for publishers.

Unblocking partner CMPs

In order to ensure that consumers get the streamlined experience they desire, Rewarded Interest typically blocks CMPs from loading and rending on websites. When CMPs agree to partner with Rewarded Interest, we rely on their implementation to automatically close their consent dialogs when the Rewarded Interest API is present. Please reach out to partner@rewardedinterest.com to provide URLs that are excepted from being blocked.

Creating a durable record of consent

Publishers look to the CMPs to maintain a durable record of consent preferences. Rewarded Interest’s goal is to facilitate this process by sharing the user’s consent preferences and to then receive confirmation. CMPs can record the consent.
